Beginner\Apprentice Guide

Things to know before diving in:

  1. Onmyoji is a SLOW game. It takes MONTHS to get good shikigami and souls.
  2. Onmyoji is a COMPLEX strategy game. This is why it’s actually FUN to play it for months on end! There are thousands of possible combinations to explore.
  3. Early game is about getting good shiki. End game is about getting good souls.
  4. Onmyoji well-balanced between Free-2-Play and Whales (people who pay cash). You can be Free-2-Play and get super good, but it costs time. I’ve spent about $60 in $5 micro-transactions over 500+ days on the game.
  5. Being in a Level 6+ Guild makes your progress MUCH faster. If you are an active apprentice making solid progress, communicating, and being engaged, I will invite you into my level 6 guild.

Topics

Early Goals:

  1. Train one of the following AOE DPS (Area of Effect Damage Producing Shikigami) up to Grade 5: SP Inferno Ibaraki Doji, SP Tamamonomae, SSR Tamamonomae, SSR Takiyashahime, SSR Orochi, SSR Ibaraki Doji, SR Ubume, SR Kisei, SR Kyohime, SR Kuro, SSR Ootengu, SSR Onikiri, SP Yoto Hime. Takes 2-4 weeks. (Order based on usefulness of shiki throughout early-, middle-, and end-game)
  2. Train your AOE DPS up to Grade 6 (See Leveling Up Your Shikigami Guide below). Takes 1-3 months depending on how much you play.
  3. Build sets of Lv 15 Grade 4 souls to be able to use their abilities.
  4. Train the support shiki you need to build a team, especially Zashiki and Yamausagi (see below).

Daily Checklist (takes about 45 min daily, I try to do these even if I’m busy with life):

  1. Go to your Realm and collect AP, Experience, and Realm Cards (must be in a guild).
  2. Send Friendship. Go to Friends >> Friendship. This give you Friendship and will allow you to borrow strong shiki from high level players. It’s best to send friendship first, and then to collect friendship second because even after you’ve maxed the friendship you can normally send, it will let you send extra friendship to people if you collect second.
  3. Complete daily Wanted Quests (your main Coin income).
  4. Complete daily Group Quests (must be in a guild), found in Guild >> Shrine. This give you Feats.
  5. Fight Kirin or Netherworld (must be in a guild), found in Town >> Hunt. This give you Medals and G6 Souls.
  6. Fight Daily Boss (Odokuro, Oborogruma, Namazu,Tsuchigumo), found in Town >> Demon Encounter >> Search Icon. This give you Medals, Black Daruma Shards and Boss Souls.
  7. Collect Demon Encounter bonuses, found in Town >> Demon Encounter (Click the portal thing 5 times to open the bonuses and to collect the red daruma at the end. You do NOT need to complete each bonus before clicking again).

Optional Daily Checklist:

  1. Farm for Souls (see below).
  2. Farm for Experience (see below).
  3. Play the Demon Parade mini-game (gives Shards).
  4. Duel (even if you lose, you get Honor and a weekly Jade reward).

Leveling Up Your Shikigami Guide

Shikigami

  1. Shikigami are obtained through Mystery Amulets or by collecting shards.
    1. Save your Mystery Amulets for events that increase the SSR draw rate from 1% (normal) to 2.5%.
    2. Exception: every week, use one amulet and then click the Twitter or Facebook icon (you don’t actually have to post it, just clicking the icon gets you get a bonus amulet, even if you don’t post).
    3. Every month there is a mystery pattern. If you draw it right, you get an extra amulet.
    4. If you buy an 11 pack of amulets in the mall, that’s 91 Jade/amulet.
    5. The cheapest amulet is 50 Jade and appear randomly as treasure chests in Demon Encounter.
    6. Cheap amulets also appear randomly in The Merchant (48-89 Jade).
    7. You can buy 2 amulets/week from Guild >> Shrine >> Feat Shop.
    8. You can buy 1 amulet/week with Medals.
    9. You can buy 1 amulet/week with Honor.
    10. Beware: NetEase often has stupid events to tempt you into spending your amulets, so that way you’ll have to spend real money to get more when you really need them.
    11. Broken Amulets are actually VERY important in order to G6. There are also special Summoning events where you get bonuses for using broken amulets, so try to keep 50-100 Broken Amulets around for these events.
    12. Use wishes in Guilds to get SR shards. To wish for a SSR shards, most people expect that you arrange a 1:1 trade for another SSR shard.
  2. Your first focus is to build a G6 farmer. A farmer is an AOE (area of effect) DPS (damage producing shiki).
    1. SSR farmers in order from best to worst include: Tamanomaoe, Ibaraki Doji, Ootengu, Onikiri, Susabi, Yoto Hime
    2. If you didn’t start with one of the above SSRs, then go with SR. SRs have the advantage that you can level their skills faster and they can be really good even at end game. Ubume is the standard choice, but Kisei, Kuro, or Kyohime are also excellent.
  3. Your first G6 takes a long time (2-3 months). While you’re doing that, also focus on building 1 orb provider, 1 accelerator, 1 healer, and 1 control unit. Do NOT spread yourself too thin by trying to build all your shiki at once. It will slow down your progress.
  4. Orb Provider: First build a G4 Zashiki with an Azure Basan soul set. Use G4 souls. Soul Slot 2 should be either Speed or HP. Soul Slots 4 and 6 should be HP/HP. The total speed of your Zashiki should be just a bit less than your fastest DPS.
    1. Your second Orb Provider after Zashiki will be either Oitsuki or Kaguya. Both need to be skilled up to be good. Zash is good right out of the box (yes she also gets better when skiled), and is useful throughout the whole game because she’s the most predictable and steady source of orbs.
  5. Accelerator: First build Yamausagi (aka Bunny). I recommend Fortune Cat or Azure Basan souls. Soul slot 2/4/6 should be SPD/HP/HP, with as much speed as possible. Bunny is useful throughout the whole game.
    1. Save extra copies of Bunny. There is a strategy called Frozen Time you need 3 to 4 Bunnies for.
    2. Your second accelerator will be Kamaitachi. Same souls. Needs to be skilled.
    3. There are other specialist accelerators, but don’t worry about them until later.
    4. The only SSR accelerator is Menreki
  6. Healer: Kusa will work for a while, but you really want to start with Hiyobiro or Momo. Both are excellent and their shards are farm-able, so you can skill them quickly. All heal rates are based on the shiki’s HP stat, so max this out as much as possible.
    1. Sakura is considered the best healer in the game when fully skilled and G6ed. Pearl is her standard soul.
    2. Hana is the main SSR healer.
    3. Shiki that produce shields like Ichimokuren (aka Ren) are like healers that can raise your HP above 100%.
  7. Frogs: Collect one of each. Don’t need to level them. Once you’ve got a full set, you get a SSR as a reward.
  8. Teams: Ultimately you will be building a couple essential teams
    1. Exp farming team (see below)
      1. 1x G6 AOE DPS
    2. Soul farming team (see below)
      1. 1x G6 AOE DPS + another G6 AOE or ST DPS
      2. Bunny
      3. Zash
    3. PVP
      1. Super complex, probably the most fun part of the game
    4. Realm Raid team
      1. Lots of possible combos. Most common are evil Double Pull teams or Counter Teams
    5. Secret Zone
      1. Typically tanky Counter Teams do best
    6. Daily Bosses
      1. 2x G6 ST DPS
      2. Ushi no Toki (damage booster)
      3. Bukkuman (damage recorder)
      4. Healer

Daruma

  1. To get your DPS to G6 you will need 5x G5 daruma.
    1. First, raise 25x white daruma to G2 Lv 20.
    2. Spend 50x Lv 1 N shiki (doesn’t matter what type) to upgrade the white daruma. Your white daruma are now G3 Lv 20.
    3. Raise 75x N shiki (see Fodder Farming) to G2 Lv 20.
    4. Spend 150x Lv 1 N shiki to upgrade the G2 Lv 20 N shiki. Your N shiki are now G3 lv 20.
    5. Raise the 25x white daruma to G3 Lv 25.
    6. Spend 75x G3 Lv 20 N shiki on the white daruma. Your white daruma are now G4 Lv 25.
    7. Pick 5x of the white daruma and raise them up to G4 Lv 30 (the remaining 20x white daruma stay at G4 Lv 25). I signify which 5 are the chosen ones by locking them.
    8. Spend 20x G4 Lv 20 white dauma on the chosen ones. Your white daruma are now G5 Lv 30.
    9. Don’t forget you have to G5 your shiki too, so you’ll need another 36 N shiki + 4 white daruma
    10. Total per G6 shiki: 236 N shiki (87 of which need to be raised to lv 20) + 29 white daruma
    11. Before you have a G6 farmer, this process will take 2-3 months. After you have a farmer, you can pump out about 1 G6 per month if you’re dedicated.
  2. Blue and Red Daruma: These exist to help you get to G6 faster. My process is:
    1. First raise your Red Daruma to Lv 4 or Lv5
    2. The amount of EXP needed to do this is actually very small. I mainly use Secret Zones 1-3 to do this while I’m doing Daily Quests anyway.
    3. Feed 2x Lv4 and 1x Lv 5 Red Daruma to a Blue Daruma. Your Blue Daruma is now Lv 12.
    4. A level 12 Blue Daruma will provide enough exp to level up an N Shiki to G3 Lv 20, or a White Daruma to
  3. Black Daruma: These are the most precious resource in the game. They are hard to get and are the main way to skill up your SSR. Getting a Black Daruma is like getting a SSR! You can never have enough of them!
    1. Once you get, one, lock it and don’t touch it. You do not need to level it up.
    2. Be sure to buy the weekly Skill Daruma from the mall for 500 medals.
    3. Buy the weekly Skill Daruma Shards with 540 Honor/each.
    4. Buy the weekly Skill Daruma Shard Pack from the Shrine >> Feat Shop (200 Feat Medals).
    5. Beat Nether World Lv 50 every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for 3x Black Daruma shards (or have a friend carry you to Lv 50).
    6. Beat the daily Demon Encounter Boss for 1x-2x Black Daruma shards.
    7. Level up Usagi to Lv 30. His bio gives you a free Black Daruma.
    8. Visit Mall >> Pack >> Free Skill Daruma daily for 50x days.

Farming Guide

Farming

  1. Coin Farming: Your main income are daily quests (they refresh at 6 am and 6 pm EST). Use OnmyojiGuide.com’s Bounty Location page to figure out where to farm: https://onmyojiguide.com/guide/bounty-list/
    1. Use your 100% coin bonus for high yield events: Tesso, Kraken, Nen, and special boss events. If you farm boss events every 30 minutes with the bonus, you can make millions.
    2. DO NOT DO ANY SECRET ZONES THAT HAVE A COIN REWARD WITHOUT THE 100% COIN BONUS. If you do you’re throwing away hundreds of thousands of coins.
  2. Experience Farming: Keep refreshing the explore zone you want to farm until there are at least 3 EXP bonuses. Bosses appear after minimum 3 minions are cleared. Killing bosses will often trigger bonuses, so try to activate the boss as much as you can.
    1. Standard farming team: Seimei (with Star and Protect set for skills) or Hiromasa + Farmer (AOE DPS) + 2x N shiki. I bring an Akashita (which is my designated Azure Basan carrier, see below) + a Blue/Red/Yellow/Green Imp that I already leveled up to Lv 18 or 19 (see Fodder Farming below).
    2. Pick the Explore level that you can clear in 1-2 hits of your DPS so you can clear a lot of zones.
    3. Use 50% EXP bonuses anytime you are farming EXP.
    4. Save 50% + 100% EXP bonus for high yield events such as: EXP soul zone, Kraken. Anytime you are using 100%, 50% should also be active. 100% bonus is very hard to get back once used.
    5. When farming Kraken, you only want 2 people in the team, that way you get to bring an extra shiki to gain EXP.
    6. If you solo farm, your Onmyoji also gains experience. If you join someone else’s team, only your shiki gain EXP. Therefore, if you want to level suppress, then joining other people’s Kraken teams is the best bet.
    7. The only reason to level suppress is so that you get easier Realm Raid matches. Otherwise level suppressing doesn’t make a difference
    8. Overflow EXP goes to you EXP Pot in your Realm. You can claim this twice daily.
  3. AP FarmingTry to keep your AP under 100. This gives you maximum recharge rate (1 AP per 5 min)
    1. If you AP is over 100, overflow AP accrues at a reduced rate to the AP Pot in your Realm. You can level up you AP pot to 60% of the max rate.
    2. Complete daily Wanted Quests that offer AP. DON’T claim them. Unclaimed quests go to your inbox where you can store them for up to 2 weeks.
    3. Realm Cards can be a major source of AP (see Realm Card Farming).
  4. Jade Farming:
    1. Complete 3x Personal Realm Raids, get the Jade reward, and refresh. Repeat. (Slow and tedious).
    2. Raise your Duel Tier to get weekly rewards up to 500 Jade (hard to do early on, usually a Double Pull team will help you get to Tier 4 or 5).
    3. Realm Cards are a major source of Jade.
    4. Don’t spend it! Save it for buying amulets during events or when cheap amulets pop up in the shops.
  5. Soul Farming: Unlock Soul Stage 10 (S10) ASAP
    1. Typical S10 team = Seimei (w skills Star and Protect) + Bunny w Fortune Cat or Azure (fastest speed) + Zashiki w Azure (speed just below the fastest DPS) + 2x AOE DPS (speed just below Seimei so Seimei can cast Star for damage boost) + 1x ST DPS (last to go, deals the final damage)
    2. To unlock S10, build friendship with high level players so you can borrow their DPS.
    3. Consider using Frozen Time to unlock (you only do this once to unlock it, not to farm it). Google how to do it.
  6. Medal Farming (Used in the Shop and to level up the AP Pot and the EXP Pot in your Realm)
    1. Best way is join an active Guild. You can get up to 70 medals in Kirin, and you can farm medals in Guild Raid, as well as weekend bosses.
    2. Farm Personal Raid (and you get a little Jade)
    3. Log in daily for Demon Encounter. On the right is a little portal. Click that 4 times (you do NOT need to complete an earlier one to move on to the next one). Once you’ve clicked 4 times, open the Red Daruma icon. You’ll get free Medals, Feat Medals, AP and other random stuff.
  7. Feat Farming (Used to buy Feats in the Guild Shrine)
    1. Complete Group Quests (found in Guild >> Shrine >> Group Quests)
    2. Participate in Kirin and Boss battles daily (found in the Town)
    3. Log in daily for Demon Encounter (found in the Town). On the right is a little portal. Click that 4 times (you do NOT need to complete an earlier one to move on to the next one). Once you’ve clicked 4 times, open the Red Daruma icon. You’ll get free Medals, Feat Medals, AP and other random stuff.
  8. Skin Tickets (used to get cool looking skins)
    1. You can buy 5 tickets/week in Guild >> Shrine >> Feat Shop
    2. Increase your Duel Rank (you get bonus Skin Tix on Monday morning)
    3. Increase your Realm Raid Rank (you get bonus Skin Tix on Monday morning)

Fodder Farming

This is the system I developed for raising my fodder… there is some method to the madness… but yes a lot of these choices are random.

  1. I assigned Akashita to carry Azure Basan.
    1. Create 4x Azure Basan soul sets (any grade or level, only thing that matters is getting the orbs at the start of the battle).
    2. Level up Akashita to Lv 16 in the Realm.
    3. Click the “Profile” button and apply the Azure Soul Set.
    4. Bring Akashita along on all farming raids, switch out when they hit Lv. 20.
  2. I assigned the Imps to be the main fodder, because you can level them up in Explore >> Dispatch.
    1. Green and Yellow Imps are assigned to be battle spectators. Level them up to Lv. 18 or 19. No souls sets needed.
    2. Level up Blue and Red Imps to Lv. 16 in your Realm.
    3. Click the “Profile” button and apply the Azure Soul Set.
    4. Level up Green, Yellow, Blue, and Red Imps to Lv 18 or Lv 19 in Dispatch using “Missing Talismans” or “Yaksuke’s Package.”
    5. Notice that by the time you take your Imp fodder into battle, you only have to get them from Lv. 18 or 19 to Lv. 20.
    6. If you’re having survivability problems or orbs shortages, you could also made souls sets for the Imps (probably Fortune Cat soul sets).
  3. I use all the other N shiki (except frogs) to Promote G2 Lv 20 Akashita and Imps to G3 Lv 20. You may now feed these G3 N shiki to your G3 Lv 25 White Daruma, creating a G4 Lv 25 White Daruma.

The Mall\The Merchant Guide

The Mall\The Merchant

  1. Priority #1: Buy Black Daruma every week. Every week, make sure to get enough medals to buy the black daruma. Lock them, don’t touch them, don’t level them. When you start getting SSRs these are super precious, so start getting them now.
  2. Buy the jade pouch for 666 jade ASAP. Takes about 2 months for it to pay for itself.
  3. Use medals to buy the Mystery Amulet after you get the Black Daruma.
  4. Once you start dueling, buy the Black Daruma shards first, then the Mystery Amulet.
  5. Buy Mystery Amulets when they appear in the Merchant (Cost of buying 1 amulet alone = 100 jade. Cost per amulet when you buy a pack is 91. Merchant is almost always cheaper).
  6. The cheapest AP is found by change in the Demon Encounter (100 AP for 50 Jade)
  7. The second cheapest AP is found in the Mall (100 AP for 60 Jade).
  8. If you’re going to need a lot AP, buy it in the mall each day and let it sit in your Inbox until you are ready to use it.
